The SMU blog and it's authors are all single parents, as in mothers and fathers who are not married to the other biological parent of their children, and who provide more than half of the support alone for their child. Contributors include: married/re-married mothers, separated mothers, divorced mothers and mothers with significant others, as wells as married/re-married fathers, separated fathers, divorced fathers, and fathers with significant others.
Terms used such as "AF" (ABSENT FATHER) or "AB" (ABSENT MOTHER) refers to the father or mother in question in the blog, respectively, and can also reference a semi-involved parent. In no way shape or form does SMU discourage a parent's relationship with their child. The authors encourage all parents or parent figures to step up and be the greatest example to their children. The blogs posted are written from the perspective of parents who's children have been without one of the biological parents in their life on a steady basis.
